Fabiano wants to stick with Sevilla

Striker Luis Fabiano has confirmed he is keen to remain with Sevilla in favour of a possible move to AC Milan.

The 29-year-old has now turned his attention to his future following Brazil's surprise World Cup exit at the quarter-final stage to Holland on Friday.

Fabiano is a long-term target for the Serie A giants and the former Sao Paolo and Porto ace has denied stating he wanted to leave the Spanish outfit.

"There will be time to think about everything. The [Sevilla] president [Jose Maria Del Nido] knows my desires," he told Tuttomercatoweb.com.

"I spoke with him and the sporting director and told them I would like to stay at Sevilla.

"I know there has been talk about me wanting to play for another club, but I told the president that this was not true. I never said anything like this."

Ramos confident of Gerrard, Cole deal

Ramos confident of Gerrard, Cole deal

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos is confident Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard will join him at the Bernabeu this summer.

Real are targeting several players as new manager Jose Mourinho looks to build a squad capable of adding silverware to their trophy cabinet.

Los Merengues have already added Argentina winger Angel di Maria to their ranks, while Gerrard and Cole are thought to be on Mourinho's wish-list.

Chelsea defender Cole played under the Portuguese at Chelsea, while Mourinho is known to be a long-term admirer of Liverpool captain Gerrard.

Ramos believes the pair will make the switch to Spain an is especially hopeful on Cole.

He told the Daily Star: "We are a club that is always looking to improve by adding the best players in the world.

"We have a proven record of signing English players - with David (Beckham) and Michael (Owen) - and it would not surprise me at all if our two new arrivals this summer were English. Ashley Cole is a terrific player.

"For me, he is by far the best left-back in the world and, along with (Didier) Drogba, Chelsea's best player.

"I am sure Chelsea will do all they can to keep him but he had a difficult year in England.

"A change might be what he is looking for. When a player is the best in his position in the world and doesn't play for Real Madrid, you have to consider it a waste.

"He has done everything in England for Arsenal and Chelsea. It's now time for him to come and win La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho.

"Jose will know all about him. He has a history of signing players and trying to sign players from his previous clubs. More importantly, players seem to love playing under him.

"I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo about him - and he told me Cole is the toughest defender he has ever played against.

"That's quite a compliment coming from the world's best player and he is exactly the sort of player we want."

On Gerrard, Ramos added: "I think Madrid's admiration of Steven Gerrard is not a secret.

"He is at the point now where he needs to win things. I can guarantee that under this Real Madrid set-up he will win things.

"I really think both of them are Real Madrid-bound."

Madrid eye swoop for Tevez

Madrid eye swoop for Tevez

Carlos Tevez's performances and goals for Argentina in the World Cup is raising interest from Real Madrid.

The La Liga runner-ups are seeking to snatch Carlos Tevez from Manchester City and are prepared to offer £40 million to bring him to the club, according to Sport.

Tevez, 26, shone at City last term after making a controversial cross-town switch from Manchester United. His 28-goal haul put the club on the brink of Champions league qualification and 'do-or-die' attitude made him a hero to the supporters.

This firm has attracted Madrid and they are prepared to throw wages of £180,000-a-week at the Argentina World Cup 2010 star to bring him to the Bernabeu. With Raul likely to exit this summer and Karim Benzema a reported target for United, Tevez would fill the gap in Real's ranks and link-up with international team-mate Gonzalo Higuain.

"Shut off or burn out, Pep!"

"Shut off or burn out, Pep!"

Barcelona's outgoing technical secretary has warned coach Pep Guardiola he must learn to shut off from football to avoid burning out.

Txiki Begiristain, who was in charge of player signings during Joan Laporta's tenure as president, is set to leave his post as Barca build for the future under new president Sandro Rosell.

The former Barca player believes Guardiola is absolutely the right man to lead the club forward, but claims his former team-mate needs to slow down.

"He should take things in a more relaxed manner. He is demanding, obsessive with his work and there were even a couple of months when I noticed he was thinner. I saw he was suffering," Begiristain said at a press conference.

"I said to him: 'try and take things differently. Dedicate the hours you need, but when you go home, try to forget about work a little. There is a danger of burning out. Controlling everything is impossible'."

Begiristain believes if Guardiola can learn to switch off at times, he can go on to be successful at Barca for many years to come.

"He has to evolve, he has to change. He will learn how to give his best performance over time and if he achieves that balance, he can be a coach for many years. There is no danger of him losing his effectiveness," he said.

The 45 year-old says time has proven Barca's decision to appoint Guardiola was the right one, with the club having won seven titles in two years under the former Spain midfielder, but believes the current coach cannot yet be considered in the same league as Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.

"Time has shown that it was the best decision," he said.

"Pep has had two absolutely marvellous years and he needs to have a couple more to reach that level.

"Cruyff won four leagues in a row and the cycle (for Guardiola) has to be longer, but Pep can achieve that."

Rosell's Barca reign commences

Rosell's Barca reign commences

Sandro Rosell has officially taken over as president of Barcelona.

Rosell won a landslide vote on June 13 to succeed Joan Laporta and has been working alongside his former colleague for the last two weeks in a transitional period.

Laporta took over in 2003 with Rosell as his vice-president, but the latter stepped down in 2005, saying the lawyer was failing to stick to his original plans for the club.

Nevertheless, Laporta went on to become the club's most successful president in terms of trophies, as Barca won 12 pieces of silverware in his seven-year tenure, including four Primera Division titles and two Champions League crowns.

Laporta said he was happy with what he has achieved during his time in charge.

"As the outgoing president, I have to say on behalf of myself and all of the board that we leave here happy with the work we have carried out," he said.

Laporta spoke only briefly, wishing Rosell the best before handing over the podium to the new president.

"With all my heart, I wish him the maximum success and good luck in the next six years," the outgoing Barca boss said.

Rosell says he hopes his tenure will be a successful era for the club.

"We want these six years to mark a new golden era for Barcelona," he said.

The new president says he is honoured to have the chance to lead the club.

"Today it is an honour to be presented before all of the socios as the new president," he said.

"I put myself at your service to make this Barca a reflection of your desire and at the same time a point of reference for all clubs across the world.

"The challenge is a very big one, but we are Barca. We won the league, we can win a title next month (the Spanish Supercup) and we are the club with the greatest representation at the World Cup."

Former club presidents Joan Gaspart, Enric Reyna and Agusti Montal were present at the ceremony, along with Barca's honorary president Johan Cruyff and coach Pep Guardiola.
